Dreaming in Dislocation: Notes on (and of) an Island

Dreaming in Dislocation is a creative writing workshop series that is drawn to areas with a dislocated story: marked by disturbance, where past and present feel in flux, where movement can be traced, and where change can be sensed. Using a combination of readings, writing prompts, discussions, and movement practices, participants collectively write a narrative of the space and its elements, imagining possible pasts and possible futures, drifting between the factual and the fictional, like in and out of a dream.

For the 4th edition, we meet at the Donauinsel (Vienna). There, we are looking at alternative presents through looking at proposals of the past — what is a green island now could have also been a train station or a military training ground, or …

We will explore this through individual and collective writing quided by prompts, and by creating a map of the Donauinsel responding to the narratives we encounter. There will also be a bit of guided movement and moments for sharing. You will get a booklet to write in and to take home with you.

Please bring your own (blue, yellow and orange) pens and pencils, and whatever you need to be comfortably outside for some hours.
